John Bottoms’ tireless pursuit of the best possible outcomes for all his clients, regardless of their circumstances and complexity, has made him a household name in the fine city of Cairns. He is particularly well known for his extensive experience working closely with Indigenous communities and with over 40 years legal experience, he’s definitely the guy you want on your side.
John has worked in both the private and public service sectors and has collaborated with some of Australia’s most highly regarded and revered legal practitioners (for example the late Sir Maurice Byers QC) during precedent-setting, highly publicised court proceedings (The Wik Case).
His professional qualifications include: Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland; Practitioner of the High Court of Australia; Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory; and Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory.
John is also an author, his most popular publication being Paw Paw Lawyer, which incidentally reached number one on the Cairns Sales List after its release only to be usurped by a release from his brother and historian, Tim.
Aside from his professional achievements, John loves sailing and his wife, Sue. When he’s not working tirelessly for indigenous communities and being a pillar of the community as head of Bottoms English Lawyers, John spends his time reading history books and telling endless jokes.
